cinco sangria…ole’

sangriaAs promised…here is the pre set up for tomorrows Cinco de drinko celebration. This is the sample batch of Sangria. You know how important it is to test the product ahead of time…guess that gives you an idea of how I will spend the rest of my evening? Test-test-test, after-all someone has to be a taste guinea pig.   ;0)mustache glass how tooSo…here is the fast how to…Google mustache images. There are tons that have full pages of different mustache images on one page. Print out the images, cut out the mustache shape, tape it onto the glass and trace with a sharpie. Pull off the tape, fill in the tape gap with the sharpie and then paint inside the trace marks with black glass surface paint. I used Martha Stewart found at Micheal’s. The paint drys pretty fast, but it’s incredibly forgiving if you catch it in time.sangria barcinco sangriaFor the Sangria…I used a Cabernet moderately priced (no box on wine served here). These portions are based on using one bottle of wine, so multiply the ingredients if you are serving a larger ground. One bottle of wine, 1/3 cup of orange triple sec, 2 cans of Hansens’s mandarin lime cane soda, 2 sliced oranges, 3 sliced limes, 2 squeezed limes, 4 cuties sliced, 2 cuties squeezed and be sure to have extra for garnish.  Most sangria’s require brandy added. I omit the brandy because I get a monster headache when I mix alcohol.  If you choose to add brandy, most recipes call for 1/4 cup to one bottle of wine.  So…that’s the scoop!  Have a festive Cinco, be safe and love to all of you. xoxoxoxo, Julie

inspire you with a hand painted pillow

pillows hand paintedOkay, so it starts with an idea…that little voice of inspiration. The one that told me to hand paint pelican feet on a pillow to help combine my mix-match fabrics and pull off that custom nautical look for the new “little” beach cottage. When you live small housing an arsenal of crafts, paints, fabrics, glue and whatever…becomes really challenging.  You have to have a place for everything! Having said that, it’s clear I can’t actually sit at my desk because I have no room for my feet or chair for that matter.   Under my desk you will find, my little singer…well actually Mimi’s little singer, my paints, my precious brushes (each one like a family member), my iron and o-well you get the idea…lots of stuff I need.  I’m still not done with this little story, but here is today’s custom pillow outcome.  Smooches until tomorrow xoxox and Love to all of ya…pillow cutom hand paintedpillow customhand painted pillowhand painted pillowxoxo, Julie

inspiration from a little piece of frabric

fabric inspirationStill nesting to get the cottage livable. I found this gorgeous fabric at a wonderful local specialty design and fabric source. It’s really the inspiration to bring all the room together. I’m not done and it’s still a work in progress…as is every room, but here is a glimpse of the direction I’m going. I pulled in the nautical blue to go with the beach theme and our Restoration Hardware sailing prints “love them…so romantic and masculine at the same time.” The coral had to be incorporated to match my little chair and purse stool…remember?

bedroom decorI’m still using my existing bedding from Restoration Hardware and Bon Bon Home...just adding a twist to make it custom without custom investment.

bedroom decorJust to give you the perspective of how small the room is…I had to take it in mirror reflection to capture it.

custom pillows burlap and crystalI made these pillows over the weekend. The duvet is next along with a hand painted pillow with Pelican feet. Curious idea…right?

target drapesMy Target drapes are a perfect match for big style without big spending. I’m loving going small… :0)
