a few of my favorite things

baby breathHappy Friday! As you know, a few of my favorite things is always my favorite post of the week. Stopping to appreciate simple little every day things that surround me makes me feel grateful and appreciative for all the blessing, big and small that God has sent my way. Above, the last of yesterdays event flowers, a little babies breath with tall grass.  I have never used babies breath as a focal point…I love the simplicity.target drapesWith the cottage we just moved into being a lease, I don’t want to make a big investment in custom anything. I made a quick little stop into Target today and just about screamed with excitement to find amazing drape panels that will work perfectly in the room. “Most importantly…make the ugly paint disappear”. Fabric sample on my camera..Cool right?Pear candleThe dogs sleeping at the front door does leave behind the best morning smell.  My new candle find Pear gets lit first thing. Yum, much better than stinky dog.  little hermit crab creature cookiesI had to literally run to the store and come up with the creation at 9:00 last Sunday night. Mimi had a school report on metamorphosis and wanted to make cookies that looked like flying bugs. All good until we realized the gas oven in our little cottage would not ignite. This is the best I could do…LOL, they look like hermit crabs. (Maybe I will do a post for you if you want to know how)?sun chairsA little spot in the sun... Smooches love-es and make it the weekend eventful!  xoxoxoxo, Julie

awesome simple salad, mondays menu

simple saladAn awesome simply salad is what you get when you decide at the last minute to add a salad to the dinner menu that needs to feed twelve people, but you don’t have all the “stuff, shit, crap, produce”, you need.  So, here is how it goes…I open the fridge, I have romaine, I have tomato’s, I always have avocados and a never ending supply of virgin “Oh-please let her keep the v-card” olive oil; add a dash of flavor and Ta-Da, it was simple and awesome!  Give it a go and let me know? xoxo

An awesome simply salad is what you get when you decide at the last minute to add a salad to the dinner menu that needs to feed twelve …

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Start with the hearts of romaine. Cut off the dark green ends "I usually go about one inch in". Then cut off the root end, exposing the stalks. Cut the stalks in half down the middle of the length of the stalk, make a final cut across the long stalks to cut them in half. Wash, spin or dry the leaves and lay them into a salad bowl. Cut, peal and quarter the avocado slices. Squeeze 1/2 cut lemon on the avocados to keep them from browning and place them on top of the romaine. Rinse the tomato's and place them into the salad bow. In a glass or small blender, mix the VOO, balsamic, mustard, lemon juice, salt, herbes of Provence until smooth. Drizzle the salad with the dressing. Top with Gorgonzola and pepper. Ta-Da!

inspire you with a get well cup of tea

get well cupOkay, is it just me or is everyone around us getting sick? I have had so many of my friends tell me they feel like crap and might be coming down with a cold.  I hate it when that happens!  The main reason it sucks to have sick friends is, I’m always sorry to hear they’re feeling less then their best.  You feel kind of helpless…like call me when you feel better, right?

That thought is exactly what prompted me to put together a little cup of care.  If my friends don’t feel good enough to have tea with me, then I will take the tea to them.  Along with a few little sick care necessities that include:  A perfect mix of soothing chamomile and lavender tea from Pannikin, a little homemade tea clip, kiss my face lip balm for chapped lips, honey, emergn-c and the o-so important lemon.felt heartsfelt heartsget well tea cupfelt heartsget well cup supplies

get well cupDirections:  The cup is from the dollar store. Good old chalkboard paint, two coats. White acrylic paint for the writing and detail. For the felt hearts, stuff with cotton balls and stitch closed. I used cool twin for the tea clip from Paper Source . xoxo, Julie
